　　Unlike sunlight,water and wind,fossil energy resources,including coal,oil and gas,are not practically reproductive during human history. Once consumed,they're gone forever.If they were to be exhausted before we could find sufficient resources to replace them,we would have to live in entire blackout again,which is of course not what we would like to see.

　　Therefore,we must economize on energy resources.New techniques should be developed and applied to reduce energy consumption in industry and daily life.Altemative energy should be employed wherever possible. Any practice that wastes energy should be eradicated.(140 words)

Recently fast-developed communication media result in the changes. And English functions as the most popular language in international communication should be the first cause—we have broken down the barriers between nations and could now communicate freely with people all over the world.

　　As for why I began to study English, there is a story. I can still remember when I was a little girl. One day, I was watching a TV programme. It’s about a beautiful country. I asked mum what it was called. She told me that’s Britain, far away in the west, and people there speak a kind of language called English. ‘But why it’s different from the one we are speaking now?’ I kept on asking. ‘That’s because every country has its own culture and language.’ I then just hit upon an idea: I must go there some day. Then I began to get interested in this nation. I wanted to know more about her culture, her history and her people. So in order to make my dream come true, I began to study English at the age of nine.

　　I have worked very hard, and as the study went further, I met many difficulties. But I have never thought of giving it up. Because later I realize that I learnt it not just because I want to go to Britain, but also because I like it. I just can’t help learning more and more about it.

　　A lot of people love that fresh-dirt smell. The surprising thing, though, is that it isn’t coming from the dirt itself.

　　Microbiologists have traced the pleasant odor to an organic chemical called “ geosmin“.”

　　A microbial geneticist named Keith Chater at the John Innes Center in England has traced geosmin down to a common bacterium called Streptomyces coelicolor.

　　He even found out exactly which gene in the little critters causes them to produce geosmin.

　　Interestingly enough, there are unconfirmed reports that animals are attracted to fresh dirt in the desert, and go there looking for water.
